Black Pelican Catering

We just had our wedding in Duck, NC and Black Pelican was our caterer. Emily Perrot was AMAZING. She was very easy to work with and took the time to customize the catering package to meet our exact needs. She was extremely responsive, which was very important when the anxiety kicks in and last minute changes are needed. The anti pasto selection for the cocktail hour was great. All of our guests loved the spread of cheeses and grilled vegetables. There was something for everyone. The dinner was delicious (prime rib carving station, grilled mahi, risotto and asparagus). Black Pelican provided the food/bartending and made the entire event run smoothly. The staff was very friendly, which does not always happen with large events. I can't say enough good things about Emily and Black Pelican. I would highly recommend Black Pelican for catering!

Black Pelican Catering was great. They helped me every step of the way. When a few unexpected emergencies happened right before my wedding they were flexible with changing my menu to fit into my budget. The food was to die for! We had bartenders as well and the drinks were great and they always made sure to serve the bride, groom and wedding party first before all the guests which I LOVED. I also ordered linens through them and they were the perfect color. I have no complaints with them at all. I worked with somebody named Emily to plan the entire event and she was fantastic. She was great at working with me from such a long distance (Alaska) to plan my wedding in NC. The only complaint I have was that they took the top layer of my cake and instead of giving it to somebody in my wedding party they brought it back to their office and I was unable to retrieve it. It was very dissappointing but it was lack of communication from my baker to my wedding party to my caterer. Nobody asked me during the wedding what I wanted to do with it and by the time they brought it to their office it was too late.

I don't know how or where to begin to explain this catering company. Emily and her staff are much more than perfect! They make planning, setup and teardown so easy. The great touch to the buffet tables and cocktail hour with their covers and decorations added such a nice touch. Emily has been such a joy to work with from afar. I had asked her soooo many questions about how things would be laid out and she said “how ever you want it to be”. Everyone at the wedding mentioned that the food was soooo yummy and the environment that the bar tender gave and the servers were top-notch! The day prior Emily came over to the location and helped us plan a rain and shine plan to the reception. The staff cleaned up so nicely after the wedding that it made it so easy to relax and just call Metro Rental to pick up the dishes the next day. The amount of food and the taste for the cost is what really made it perfect for our wedding. We took home two coolers of food and had dinner for a month after our wedding. I cannot express enough how wonderful Black Pelican Catering is for the Outer Banks venue’s for they will travel and cook anywhere! Not only does Black Pelican Catering work with food but they also become part of your family. Thanks again sweet peas!

We used Black Pelican catering for our rehearsal dinner and I can’t say enough about them. Our rehearsal dinner was held at a beach house and there were no worries. They showed up on time, did a wonderful job displaying the food, the food tasted great and their service was superb. Emily, the catering director, met with us 6 weeks before our event and had a lot of helpful suggestions. She was also able to answer all of our many questions and arrange for the appropriate rentals of chairs, tables etc. It was a great relief to leave everything in Emily’s capable hands. We were a small group of 22, but we had 10 children that ranged in age. The Black Pelican had something for everyone. Thanks again for such relaxing and yummy evening!

I worked with Emily from Black Pelican Catering to provide food for my wedding in September. She was fantastic! From the beginning, she worked with me on planning a menu that worked for us (we ended up doing a mexican buffet, which she helped create and make suggestions for the dishes as well as "centerpieces" for the cocktail hour). She was absolutely fantastic to work with - very responsive and fairly priced! The food on the wedding day was delicious, everyone was happy with the app centerpieces; including chips with guacamole and salsas, shrimp cocktail shooters, and taquitos, and the main dishes including fajitas - chicken, fish, and steak, with rice and beans, and all of the accompanying sides. The servers were very professional, and helpful. I can say, as a bride that planned the entire wedding from a distance, and going with reviews to pick the vendors that i worked with, I couldn't have found a better caterer! Definitely would recommend Black Pelican!

Emily was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about menu vs budget, etc, and definitely up for answering a million and ten questions from a nervous out-of-state bride. She was also extremely nice, which ranks high in my book. They're located in Kitty Hawk, but they'll travel all up and down the Banks to deliver your food. We had a completely affordable and delicious North Carolina bbq buffet that they staffed and their staff was attentive and polite and seemed genuinely happy to be outside in the sun, sharing our day with us. Black Pelican has wonderful food at their restaurant as well, and their catering is no less delightful. I also truly appreciated their professionalism in arriving on time, setting everything up on their own, packing up the leftovers for us to enjoy the rest of our week in the Banks, and then cleaning up and heading out without direction or difficulty. I couldn't have been more pleased.
