Our cake was gorgeous and was absolutely delicious. We had the 'Keylime Bliss' cake at our wedding and as apprehensive as I was at first, it was unbelievably delicious. She truly is a fabulous baker, designer and very professional to work with. I loved our cake tasting and was extremely happy with the end result.

Ironically Marsha was recommended to us by Kim Epps a woman who later ran off with a $1,000.00 of our money, a few other poor couples money and I hear from a good source the same caterer used by the disgruntle bride who gave the review below; you can goggle all the above mentioned information. But under NO circumstance should you let this be a reflection of Marsha, her product or how she runs her business.Marsha did a tasting with us on a less than 24 hour request in Oct 2008, and we too fell in love with Marsha's signature cake; so much that we ordered a cake and had it shipped to the DC area (where we live), within a month of returning home.We had a 2nd tasting July 2009, because we wanted different flavor combos on each layer and wanted to samples them before serving it to our guests. As crazy as some of the combos were they tasted great, later we figured it out, anything Marsha make is great......so great my sister ordered the "Chocolate Dipped Strawberry" cake for my dinner rehearsal and we had the same for our wedding cake, alternating in dark & white chocolate ganash with white & dark chocolate dipped strawberries. (Marsha experimented with the white chocolate ganash for the 1st time, just for us)We also had Marsha make us an extra "Anniversary Cake" because we wanted to eat our top layer (key lime bliss), at our reception, in all the shuffle both cakes ended up on the top shelf of our hotel closet for over 36 hours before we found them. Believe it or not I laughed about it, but little did I know my sweetheart of a Hubby emailed Marsha at 5am in the morning telling her of our dilemma, and Marsha replied at 6am on a Saturday, mind you, "...be a Hero and save the day; come pick-up another "Great Cake"!!! FREE OF CHARGE!!!!!By 10am, my Hubby was on one knee, opening the box to a fresh "anniversary cake" and we're still getting calls from guests telling us how great the cake was. Marsha's just as GREAT as her cakes. Many, Many Thanks,Sonya and Dru 10-1-09 weddingI found out later, that Marsha was in the mist of pushing out 6 cakes for weddings that day.

I would just like to say that although late better than never. My husband and I got married in the outer banks in May of 2007 and trying to do a destination wedding is very stressful. I had no idea what cake flavors would work and everyone was saying that the Key Lime flavor is a southern tradition and should go with that. Unfortunately, I can't stand Key Lime so I asked her about the Hummingbird Cake and it was absolutely the best cake that I ever had. I was so amazed at the cake when I saw it at our reception that I was almost in tears because it was more beautiful that I thought it would be. I was so excited to take the top tier home to share with my husband for our one year anniversary however, my father-in-law dropped the cake later that night when we returned from the reception and there was no salvaging it :(

My cake was more awesome than I could have planned or imagined. Since my husband and I are really into the outdoors, and since I happened to find a figurine of two hikers as the cake topper, I thought a hiking theme would be neat for the cake. Marsha took this idea and ran with it, and what I got was an amazingly colorful and detailed cake with grass, bridges, a waterfall, trails, etc. I had so many compliments on it. And while I may be the only person who didn't choose the Key Lime Bliss cake, my white cake with chocolate ganache was delicious and moist! Wedding cakes are not cheap, and I feel like I got a pretty good value for the money.

I had a great experience with Marsha. Her staff was always very prompt when answering my e-mails and I never worried. It is hard to plan a destination wedding, but our cake was awesome. We chose their signature cake and our guests are still raving about it!

I need to start by saying, I am a chocaholic. There was never a consideration of any other cake for our wedding. Until....the Key Lime Bliss cake came along. This cake is amazing and so different. Marsha was and her assistant were wonderful to work with. Not only was the cake so delicious, it was beautifully decorated. Wish we lived closer to the OBX so we could have it more frequently.

Marsha from Great Cakes of the OBX did a fabulous job on our wedding cake! We met with her back in December in her delicious icing filled kitchen. She served us several types of cake, but our favorite by far was her signature Key Lime Bliss. It was so moist and delicious and was unlike anything you could find anywhere else. The key lime flavor was perfect for our beach themed wedding! She also elegantly decorated the cake with adirondack chairs, a beach umbrella, flip flops, and edible sand. There is no limit to her creativity and what she can do! She is very organized and quick to respond to all calls and e-mails. The cake was little pricey (as all wedding cakes are), but well worth the cost. Everyone loved the unique flavor and the cute design. Thanks so much Marsha!

We got the Key Lime Bliss, and let me tell you it was wonderful. I don't think that there was a single person that did not love the cake. We had left overs the next day and if it was possible, the cake was even better. I highly recommend the Key Lime Bliss!!

We highly recommend the signature cake of the Great Cakes which is the Key Lime Bliss Cake. It was a delicious ending to a delicious meal at the beach. The cake was very easy to order from the internet, and Marsha was very responsive to email communication and changes to the cake quite close to the wedding. Very beautiful, and tasty.

The cake that I received from Great Cakes of the outer banks was a complete disaster. The cake did not have the proper support internally, instead a using disposable locking columns & plates, Marsha used a few 1/4" doll rods. This lack of support caused the bottom tier to slide. My caterer did the best she could to put the poorly constructed cake back together. After the wedding I called Marsha, she called me back a few days later. She know what had happen, the cater called for help, Marsha did not assist. I asked for a refund ($350) she advised me that it was the caters fault to ask her for a refund. Funny she recommended Great Cakes. I planned my wedding from the other side of the country all by email. All of my vendors, with the exception of great cakes, were wonderful...more then I expected.
